Old Hickory House may look great from the outside. The inside has a Southern Cafeteria feel. It seems to be a hotspot for the retired folks. The menu seemed to be more of a country kitchen then just BBQ.
On Wednesday they have a great lunch special for $6.99, a meat, 2 sides and drink. It was a ton of food. After we ordered the waitress also brought us a basket of biscuit, corn bread and Texas toast. All very tasty.
The pork and ribs were both average. The ribs were pretty fatty with extra cartilage. The beef was very finely chopped, almost to a powder. The sauce was just awful, almost like ketchup with chunks added in. The only really good thing on the menu was the Brunswick Stew.

Comments: Old Hickory House looks great on the outside, but when you walk inside it has more of a cafeteria feel to it than a BBQ joint. The service was good. The waitress brought a lot of bread to the table which was great. The pulled pork was pretty good, average. The ribs seemed as though they weren't cooked with care. The stew was really good, but when the stew is one of the best things you had, that is not a good thing. I would have to say pass on this one.

The inside of Slopes has a good country feeling. You order at the counter and can also choose to pick up some pork rinds. During the week you can choose to add an extra rib to your meal for just $1. Good deal. The ribs were just OK with a very mild smoky flavor. The pork was also just average. The chicken was very dry and they do not offer Beef.
The sides were hit or miss. Great Fried Okra, but the Jalapeno Cheese Grits was a miss. Mac and Cheese was blah. The Brunswick Stew was pretty soupy and had bits of corn meal it in. It got mixed reviews. If they have a dessert special, you should go for it. The Blackberry Cobbler was great.
Overall it is a mediocre BBQ place. I would eat there if I was meeting a group out for a meal.

The biggest attraction to me was the ability to add 1 rib to any plate for $1 (Up to 3 ribs), and I added 2. The Brunswick stew had a very thin consistency, but very tasty. I liked it. Mac & cheese was mediocre. The ribs had a hint of smokiness too them, but also a baked taste as well. It took away from them and left them average. The pulled pork was good. The tenderness of the pulled pork and ribs was average. Overall, this is a mediocre BBQ joint. Go here for a BBQ sandwich and some fries, but nothing more.

If you are busy shopping and you run across a Pig n Chick, you are in luck. It is a great place to grab a quick bite, for a good price. They look like a chain but have done a good job and spicing up the atmosphere. There pork, beef and ribs were all good and pretty tender. They also have a good variety of sauces, KC, Mustard and Carolina vinegar.
For an appetizer you can try the Red Neck Nachos. Fries covered with Pork and Melted cheese. It was sounded great but could use more cheese and some sort of sauce. The stew was on the soupy side but still tasty.
Pig n Chick may not be the best BBQ around, but it is great for the price. Some locations even deliver…

Comments: To date, this is the best BBQ I have had from a place that is in a shopping center. Well priced. Lots of wall decorations that you expect from a BBQ joint. It was just kinda too small to have a great atmosphere though. I started with the redneck nachos (pulled pork, over fries and cheese). The cheese was just shredded cheese sprinkled on, it wasn’t melted at all. I wasn't too impressed by this starter, although it is a great idea. The ribs and pulled pork were extremely tender. The ribs were moderately tasty. The pulled pork had a nice smoked flavor, I would go back for the pulled pork alone. The stew was pretty good. Their sauce was a choice of regular, mustard or spicy. The regular and mustard together was excellent, not so much on the spicy. Overall, I would say diffidently stop by when you are craving some good BBQ without the time to travel for the best.

Comments: When you walk into Pig n Chick, it looks a little like a chain but they do a good job decorating. The Beef is very tender but it did not have too much smoke flavor. Same goes for the ribs. They fell right off the bone but weren’t very smoky.
We went with the Redneck nachos to start with. Fries, topped with pork and melted cheese. The pork was on top of the fries and the cheese was just slightly melted. It was good but the ingredients did not seem to blend together. The Brunswick stew is a little soupy but pretty tasty. The mac & cheese was cafeteria style, nothing too special. They had three sauces on the table; KC style, Carolina Mustard and Carolina Spicy Vinegar. All three were pretty good.
For the price, Pig n Chick is great. Good, fast BBQ, but nothing to go out of your way for.

Fat Matt's Shout Out
Just watched Up in the Air. Pretty good movie, especially if you have had to travel with work.
George Clooney'scharacter, Ryan Bingham, make a good shout out to Fat Matt's Rib Shack. The best ribs in Atlanta. I must agree.
You can also check out Director Jason Reitman whip out his Fat Matt's Life Time of Ribs Card, during an interview with collider.com. Where do I get one of those???

At first glance Fox Brothers looks like a great dive BBQ joint. There is a separate smoke house next to the restaurant, old signage all over the walls and the menu looks like an 1800's news paper. While you are waiting for your food the Tomminator is a must. Tater Tots covered in thick Brunswick stew smothered with melted cheese. The fried pickles or jalapenos are really good as well.
The ribs come out with a slightly burnt sauce. Pretty good, but they were not very tender. The outer ones were more burnt an the inner ones were slightly tender. The beef was not very tender. The pulled pork had a strong bitter smoky flavor. The chicken wings are smoked wings, the meat has a good kick to in and they are covered in sauce. A nice sweet and spicy combo.
Over all, Fox Brothers has a great BBQ atmosphere and some of the best BBQ appetizers around. Their main dishes need a bit of work.

Comments: Fox Bros looks great from Dekalb Ave. When I walked up and saw the smoker house next door and then the menu, I was very intrigued and excited. I ordered the Tomminator to start. Tots piled high with cheese and Brunswick Stew. It was very good, but more bar fare than bbq. The ribs and chicken wings combo looked really good when set in front of me. But, it failed to impress where the rubber hit the road. The ribs were tough. The flavor was okay, but I could tell that Fox Bros. lost focus somewhere along the way when it comes to translating their original concept with ribs into the finished product. The current execution is poor. The wings were interesting looking. Smokey and spicy buffalo flavors present as well. The Collard Greens were also good, But I won't be planing to come back again. That would require some reason other than the food.

Comments: When I first walked into Fox Bros I got really excited. They have a smoke house next to the restaurant, the restaurant was packed and the menu looked like a western newspaper.
We started off with the Tomminator, fried Pickles and jalapeno cornbread. The Tomminator is one of the best side dished I have had, tater tots topped with thick Brunswick Stew smothered with melted cheese. Wow. The fried pickles and jalapenos were excellent too. The breading was perfect. The corn bread was not sweet, I prefer mine sweater.
For the main dish I got a combo beef and ribs. The beef was a bit dry and not the most tender. The sauce was great, sweat and spicy I picked up a bottle on my way out. The put the sauce on the ribs early in the process with gave it a burnt sauce taste, pretty good but they outer ribs were not that tender. As I worked my way in they got more tender. The Brunswick stew way nice and thick, with a sweater tomato flavor. The Mac and chees was very cafeteria style, just OK.
Overall I would say the atmosphere, sauce and sides are amazing. The meat was OK. It may have been excellent at one point, and I see the potential but not our day.

Comments: There was a 15 minute wait for Fox Bros. It was packed and we couldn't find parking. There was a seperate smoke house on the side that had BBQ smoke puring out of it. During the wait we scoped the menu and it was very impressive. All kind of BBQ creations and different kinds of plates. We ordered some fried pickles and The Tomminator while waiting for our food. Wow it was all amazing. I was thinking that this could be the best BBQ yet....and then I got my plate. The ribs were ok, a little tough. The pulled pork had a very odd taste to it. Like some type of weird wood chips were used during smoking, and it didn't turn out well. The mac and cheese was very dry, I ate about a fourth of it. The brunswick stew was ok. Overall, they excell in the areas that don't really matter with BBQ. I would go back for the appetizers only. They need to revisit
